ABS Break turns 25

abs breakABS is 25 five years old. This is an evolution in car industry technolgy where eventually wheel can be controlled by the electronic device.

ABS is An anti-lock braking system (is a system on motor vehicles which prevents the wheels from locking while braking. The purpose of this is twofold: to allow the driver to maintain steering control and to shorten braking distances.

Some History of the ABS
The German (ABS German name is “Antiblockiersystem” given to it by its inventors at Bosch) firm of Bosch had been developing anti-lock braking technology since the 1930s,
But only until In August 1978, Mercedes-Benz was the world’s first motor manufacturer to officially introduce the new ABS. In December 1978, ABS became optionally available, initially in the S-Class at an extra charge of DM 2,217.60.Before long, it also became available for the other model series. In 1984, ABS became standard on Mercedes-Benz passenger cars for the first time.

Heinz Leiber, former head of ABS development at Daimler-Benz and therefore known as the “Father of ABS, has this to say: “Mercedes-Benz and its anti-lock braking system were also precursors in the development of digital electronics suitable for use in motor vehicles.
